Difference between neck butt welding flange and neck flat welding flange

1. The weld forms are different: the weld between the pipe with neck flat welding flange and the flange is a fillet weld, while the weld between the pipe with neck butt welding flange and the pipe is a circumferential weld;

2. Different materials: the material of the neck flat welding flange is machined from the ordinary steel plate with the thickness meeting the requirements, while the material of the neck butt welding flange is mostly machined from forged steel parts;

3. Different nominal pressures: the nominal pressure of the neck flat welding flange is 0.6-4.0mpa, while the nominal pressure of the neck butt welding flange is 1-25mpa.

4. Another point is that the welds connecting the neck butt welding flange and the nozzle belong to class B welds, and the welds connecting the neck flat welding flange and the nozzle belong to class C welds. The post welding NDT is different.

5. The neck flat welding flange and the neck butt welding flange cannot be replaced at will. From the perspective of manufacturing, the neck flat welding flange (so is the abbreviation of slip on) has a large inner diameter, which means that the weight is small and the cost is low. In addition, the neck butt welding flange with a nominal diameter greater than 250mm (WN is the abbreviation of weld neck) needs to be tested, so the flange does not need to be tested, so the cost is low
